Hinchliffe Mill Junior & Infant School

Reading: Once of the most important things you can do to help yourself in school is to read lots of different types of books! We expect you to read to an adult three times a week for about ten minutes each time. Remember to ask your adult to write in your reading record and don't forget that Miss Vann collects everyone's reading record every Monday. If your reading book needs changing by an adult, you must remember to put it in the changing tub on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays.

Maths: Learning times tables is an important foundation in Mathematics that will benefit you throughout your whole school life. We expect you to practise your Terror Tables and Division targets each week. In addition to this Year 4 have one piece of written Numeracy homework to be handed in every Friday.

Writing: Using a variety of sentences in our written work is important and each week we will challenge you to  be Sentence Doctors by improving two sentences that are poorly and need your attention! They are boring and some punctuation will be missing too.  Think about ways to improve sentences:

A - Adverbial phrase (who/where/when/why/how/how often?)

B - Boom words and phrases (ambitious adjectives, adverbs, powerful verbs, similes and metaphors)

C - Conjunctions (because, although, however, despite, as well as etc.)

!,?, ...Ambitious, accurate punctuation.
