How do I set up internet filters?

Each broadband service provider is different; however all have some form of filtering you can set. These can limit either whole content or individual web pages. We have included a section below of some of the most widely used providers and their contact details.

Can children change the parental settings after they have been set up?

Each device is different; however most can be set to request a pin in order to make changes to settings. Here is a useful website, which includes a simple and straight forward step by step guide to setting parental controls. You can choose the specific device you are trying to protect.

What curriculum does the school follow?

Hinchliffe Mill covers E-Safety topics throughout a variety of lessons; during computing, E-Safety lessons are taught at least once each year to all our classes in school. Pupils record key points from these lessons in their computing journal. Our work revolves around the Education for a Connected World framework below.

What is done in school to protect our children?

Before the children use the laptops or iPads the teacher recaps the school SMART e-safety rules (ThinkUKnow). All internet content goes through a strict filtering system of which the school can add websites to if desired. Throughout the year the school runs a series of assemblies relating to keeping safe online, these are age appropriate and enhance the skills of the children to spot the dangers when using the Internet, but also highlight the positive aspects of Internet use.

Mr Bond has undertaken Ambassador training administered by CEOP that allows him to train teachers and children on child exploitation and online protection.
